November Members meeting. November 23, 2023

19 Nov

At our November members meeting, David James, VA7VK, Will be giving a talk entitled,
THE VAGARIES AND ADVENTURES OF ESTABLISHING AN HF STATION IN A TOUGH LEGAL AND TECHNICAL SETTING.

“This presentation documents my return to Amateur Radio after being MIA for decades. It discusses the legal and technical difficulties of establishing a station in a coastal QTH that could be described as murderous. Four nontrivial problems became apparent, two initially and the other two discovered later. These problems were wind, the legal implication of living in a Strata, the small size of the patio and its rocky nature. The story begins with an account of how the initial antenna was installed, then upgraded; it includes how mistakes were made then rectified. Many lessons were learnt usually the hard way. Its an adventure that any new HF operator could benefit from while having a good laugh. But its also suitable for seasoned operators who will enjoy the sport and camaraderie of helping their friends in the amateur radio community. My presentations are always best enjoyed by attending in person, but Zoom will be available.”

We encourage all members to attend at 25 West Burnside Road or by Zoom. The link for Zoom and the credentials will be in an email to the members.
